What the map shows
Each dot is an airport, placed at its latitude and longitude. The bigger the dot, the more scheduled route connections it has in the open OpenFlights dataset. The pattern is striking: dense clusters over the eastern United States, Europe and East Asia, with long-haul anchors like Dubai bridging them.
This is network centrality, not passenger volume, so a super-connector hub can outrank a larger origin-and-destination airport. For the ranked table, see busiest airports.
